about this studio note
Studio Drop 51
Hidden From Itself — formerly Ecosystem of the Plant — is done. It's titled that way because it feels hidden from me too. A language I didn't know I spoke. Unlike anything I've made before, even as my work has moved toward abstraction.
This piece holds a particular kind of weight in the evolution of the work — the kind that marks a shift, a before and after. Whether a series follows, I don't know yet. But it originated from an entirely different place, and that matters.
The past two months have not been click, click, click. One small piece over three months. Deep trust required. What I'm recognizing is that as the way I work changes, production will likely slow — and the depth of each piece will have to be worth that. I think it will be.
You just heard what the Circle sounds like.
Most people stand in front of a piece of work and feel something they can't quite name. They trust it or they don't, they're moved or they aren't, but the language for why stays just out of reach.
The Circle closes that distance.
Not through education. Through proximity — to the work while it's being made, to the thinking behind it, to the moments like this one, where a piece arrives that surprises even the artist making it.
Studio Drop 51 is one letter from inside the Circle. There are fifty before it.
If you want to keep receiving them, leave your email.
What arrives next is three letters of introduction — to the work, the access, and whether the Circle is for you.
